Last year we put an automatic watering system in the garden. She is called Hilda (I’ll tell you why another day). She is very, very clever and turns herself on for 20 minutes early in the morning and 20 minutes at night. Our initial hope was that she would keep the plants watered when we were away but of course she loves working all the time, watering the garden gently twice a day – drip, drip in the morning and drip, drip in the evening, even when we were home! Hilda has saved us both water (great Eco-credentials) and time spent watering so we love her!
Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop—thirty, sixty or even a hundred times what was sown.” Mark 4:20
What surprised us was how much better the plants grew with her twice daily drip, drip than they did with a hosepipe-full of water when we had time. We had some really huge begonias! (We shouldn’t have been surprised really – after all I don’t think I would have advised my patients to take all their week’s tablets on one day!)
Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. Proverbs 30:5
Maybe I need to treat my CBS a bit more like that. A regular drip, drip into my life. Not all-done-in-a-rush-before-the-meeting (like I did this week!) -that’s our hosepipe approach- but Hilda’s style of regular drip, drip of the very Word of God into my life every day. Hilda’s drip, drip might even bring more growth and even more (inner) beauty…!!!
What about you? Are you “hosepipe” person or “drip, drip” person?
Which do you think might give better growth in your life?
One of the exciting things about the first month of my appointment has been the number of queries which come in from people who are looking for classes or wanting to start new classes. Children and Youth as well as Adult enquiries are steady and there are pilot studies and trainings planned. This is a great season, as CBS moves to the summer break, to think pray and talk about how next year you could start another group in another village or area of your town or city. Maybe someone is moving house and would like to start in their new area? If anyone you know would like to get a new class started do encourage them. And think carefully about who you could invite to your study. Plan a summer get-together and invite members, spouses and friends.
If we are to be true to our passion “Everyone in the world … in the Word ” we need to get more and more people under the drip, drip of the Word God, and see lives transformed by His power.
